Treat Dad to a Night of Racing at Tri-City Raceway Park

(Franklin, PA June 15, 2021):  Tri-City Raceway Park will help all families celebrate Father’s Day. On Sunday, June 20, there will be a Sunday Thunder racing program, so Dad will certainly enjoy the variety and competition that will be presented on one of the region’s biggest and fastest dirt tracks! Four classes of cars will be on hand, including the Shawgo Real Estate LLC 410 Sprint Cars, the Krill Recycling 358 Modifieds, the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks, and the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks. Plus, every father in attendance will receive a free gift courtesy of the speedway.

Last week’s action was cancelled due to a late afternoon rain that dumped too much water on the track. “We were really disappointed that we could not get that show in,” said track owner Merle Black. “But we will be ready this week for sure.”

Jack Sodeman, Jr. was in the pit area and ready to take on the challengers when the rains came. But the North Jackson, OH driver who leads the point standings in the Shawgo Real Estate LLC 410 Sprint Car division has hit a rough patch. He flipped while leading the Western PA Speedweek show at Tri-City on June 6 and, then, the following week, he crashed again at another area speedway. So, he could certainly use the extra time to prepare his car.

Brandon and Brent Matus, the father and son duo from Wampum, will be seeking their first wins at Tri-City this season. Brandon has already triumphed at another area track, so he would love to break through at Tri-City. Kyle Colwell continues to hold down a position in the top five of the rankings even though he’s giving up considerable horsepower to his rivals. And many fans would love to see veteran Bob Felmlee take a win in his return to racing after several years away from the sport.

But there will be plenty of competition from the likes of Carl Bowser, Brandon Spithaler, Chase Metheny, Darin Gallagher, and Matt Farnham. Many more racers are expected as the season nears the halfway mark.

Jeremiah Shingledecker has a pair of wins with the Krill Recycling LLC 358 Modifieds, but Kevin Hoffman recently took his first career victory at his home track, and he wants to double up this week. Jimmy Holden is a recent winner, too, and he could do it again. Defending track champion Kyle Fink finally took a win at another area track, but he is still winless at Tri-City. Could this be the week he gets the checkers?

Some other drivers who have come on of late are Sid Unverzagt, Jr. and Lonny Riggs. Both drivers had some bad luck earlier in the season, but it seems as though they are now ready to contend for a prestigious victory. Nathan McDowell, Eric Beggs, Ryan Riffe, and D.J. Schrader will contend, along with Tom Holden who sat out several of the early races this season. Another driver back in action after missing a few weeks is Kevin Green.

Consistency has put William Hurrelbrink at the top of the list in the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks even though he has yet to cross the finish line first at Tri-City. Veteran Josh Seippel  and teenager Tyler Wyant are close behind Hurrelbrink and another win for either of them could allow them to overtake him. The class is growing and becoming more competitive each week, as racers like Bobby Whitling, Randy Wyant, Jackson Humanic, and Charlie McMillen are back in action. And, let’s not forget Doug Iorio, II, Patrick Fielding, and many more. In addition to the track regulars, might we see some invaders come in to get ready for the Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series event coming up on July 25?

Last, but not least, the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks will be in action on Father’s Day. Dalton Speer and Justin Bailey have been going head to head all season long and, it should come as no surprise, they sit atop the point standings. But, Chad Greeley and Evan Sobieski have been consistent and either one of them could pull off a win. About two dozen racers are usually on hand for this affordable class which is based on street-legal four and six cylinder machines that are modified for safety.

Regular ticket pricing will apply for this racing smorgasbord. That means that adults (ages 16 to 62) will be admitted for $15, and seniors (ages 62 and up) will be admitted for $13. The student ticket will be $10 for those aged 11 through 16. Children under ten will be free. A Family Pass will allow two adults of any age and two students to join the fun for only $45. And, Pit Passes will be $30.

The gates will open at 2 p.m. for those entering the Pit area, and at 4 p.m. for those who wish to grab their grandstand seats early for the night’s action. Racing will begin at 6 p.m.

If you cannot make it to Tri-City Raceway Park on Father’s Day, plan to attend on June 27 or July 4, which will be Sunday Thunder (four division) racing. The holiday show will also include fireworks.
