Sprint Pay-Out Boosted at Tri-City Raceway Park for Sprint Spectacular

(Franklin, PA July 7, 2021):  Merle Black has upped the stakes for the Shawgo Real Estate LLC portion of the Sprint Spectacular that will be held at his Tri-City Raceway Park when action resumes on July 18. The winner of the 410 Sprint feature that night will take home $2,500!

The increase in the winner’s share could not have come at a better time for third-generation racer Brandon Matus. With a win and a second place finish in his last two outings, Matus, who is known as “the Wheelman,” has closed to within one point in his quest for a first championship at Tri-City Raceway Park. Jack Sodeman, Jr. is struggling to hold on to his lead and he knows how difficult that may be. You see, Sodeman is down to one car and one wing after destroying two cars. One crash came at Tri-City, while he was leading the Western PA Speedweek event a few weeks ago. The other came more recently at a track in eastern Ohio.

Recent top finishes by Bob Felmlee has propelled him into third in the Shawgo Real Estate LLC point standings. But Brent Matus has moved to fourth, just seven out of the third spot.

Holding down fifth is Kyle Colwell, who competes weekly with a 360 cubic inch powerplant under the hood of his Sprint Car, while almost all others have 410 engines in theirs.

Other top drivers expected for the Sprint Spectacular are Brandon Spithaler, Carl Bowser, Darin Gallagher, Leyton Wagner, and Bob McMillin.

With the extra money on the line, some outsiders may drop in as well.

One driver who will not be on hand is Sye Lynch, the winner in last week’s Shawgo Real Estate LLC 410 Sprint race. Lynch is hitting the road. He will be racing in the Midwest against tough national competition. We wish him well and we look forward to his return to the fold later in the season at Tri-City Raceway Park.

Also on the card will be the RUSH Sprint Cars, presented by Gary Glass Automotive and Washington House. In two previous contests at Tri-City Raceway Park, Chad Ruhlman and Gale Ruth Jr. were victorious in this back ‘em in style of racing. Ruth became the third member of his family who scored a win at Tri-City. More than a dozen other racers are expected to challenge for the win, including former 410 track champion Rod George, and popular Arnie Kent.

The next generation of racers will get their chance to compete at Tri-City Raceway Park on the 18th of July. The Junior Sprints will tackle the big half mile. Most of the drivers in this class are youngsters just getting their feet wet in the sport. The division has already graduated some racers into the big car ranks, including Chase Metheny, a racer in the Shawgo Real Estate LLC 410 Sprint Cars, and Ayden Cipriano, who recently brought his 358 Modified to the track to take on the Krill Recycling LLC competitors.

The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks and the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks will complete the program on the 18th of July. The Pro Stocks will be getting ready for the Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship that will be coming up on the 25th of July.
