Applefest is Back at Tri-City Raceway Park

(August 25, 2021):  With the regular season complete at Tri-City Raceway Park, attention now turns to the post-season special events. And, track owner Merle Black has announced an addition to the docket. “Tri-City has a proud history of hosting a big season finale for the Pro Stock division and we are pleased to announce the return of Applefest on Sunday, September 19.”

“The 2021 edition of Applefest will be a fifty lapper,” Black added. “We took the advice of the competitors and shortened the race.” Previous Applefest classics were one hundred lap affairs and, all too often, the events were marked by attrition rather than good, hard racing. “We think that the shorter race will give the fans more exciting wheel to wheel action throughout the contest.”

Like all Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stock events held at Tri-City Raceway Park in 2021, the Applefest will be sanctioned by the Penn-Ohio Pro Stock Championship. However, the race will not award series points to the racers.

“We will use time trials for the Pro Stocks,” Black explained. “That will help to make the event special.” Other details for the format are still in the works.

The purse structure is also still in the planning stages, as Black and his staff are busy working on sponsors for the program. Interested individuals and businesses can call the track office to discuss the opportunities to be associated with this important event.

The 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks will be part of Applefest. The Mini Stocks will race for a winner’s share of $500, which is likely to attract many of the region’s best racers in the class.

Other divisions are under consideration for inclusion in Applefest and will be announced in the near future.

The first of the post-season special events will be held this Saturday, August 28. The Renegade Monster Trucks will roll into Tri-City Raceway Park. “This is a great spectacle for kids of all ages,” Black said.

Then, over Labor Day weekend, the action will return to the big half-mile oval. On September 3, 4, and 5, eight divisions will be in action. The weekend will kick off with an open practice session for all classes. The Shawgo Real Estate LLC 410 Sprints will be in action on Saturday and Sunday, with extra money on the line. The Krill Recycling LLC 358 Modifieds will race on Saturday night and then, Sunday, they will take on the Big Block Modifieds of the BRP Modified Tour on Sunday. The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks will get two opportunities to get ready for Applefest, as will the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks. The RUSH Sprints will also race both nights under the twin banners of Gary Glass Automotive and Washington House. The Junior Sprints and the Vintage Modifieds will also be on the card both nights. A big bonfire and music will close out the holiday festivities on Sunday after the final checkered flag falls.
