Racing Resumes on Father’s Day at Tri-City Raceway Park

(Franklin, PA June 14, 2022):  After a delayed start to the 2022 season and a memorable finale to the Western Pennsylvania Speedweek, Tri-City Raceway Park will return to action this Sunday, June 19, 2022. This will be a Sunday Thunder racing event, which features the track’s four customary classes in complete programs. And, there will be special gifts for all fathers who purchase general admission tickets!

A.J.Flick form Appollo, PA is on a real hot streak of late and he is expected back to boost his points lead in the Shawgo Real Estate LLC 410 Sprint Car division. Flick swept the three-race mini series and he has four other wins in the region so far this year.

But plenty of stiff competition will be present. Multi-time track champion Jack Sodeman, Jr. was third on opening night and he would like nothing more than to knock off Flick. So would Brandon Matus, the defending title holder. Other top runners, like Cody Bova, Bob Felmlee, Michael Bauer, and Logan McCandless will be in contention, too. And let us not forget young Vivian Jones, the only female racer in Tri-City’s top class. Although she is relatively new to the winged 410 Sprinters, she has multiple wins and a track championship, to boot, in the Modified Lites.

The top spot in the Donovan & Bauer Auto Group 358 Modifieds will be up for grabs, as the opening night victor, Erick Rudolph, is not expected to return for this contest. Rudolph, a respected racer from the Empire State, plans on sporadic visits to the Venango County oval. Nick Joy, another New Yorker, is expected and he would like to move up a notch in the finishing order, as he was second to Rudolph in the opening round.

Rick Regalski is recuperating from a shoulder problem, and it has yet to be announced who will fill the seat in Mike Turner’s car. Dave Murdick drove it to victory last week at another area speedway, so he may have the inside track on the ride for Tri-City.

Despite these uncertainties, the fans can expect to see top competitors like defending divisional champion Jeremiah Shingledecker, Franklin’s own Kevin Hoffman, Jimmy “the Jet” Holden, popular Lonny Riggs, and exciting Kyle Fink.

Levi Maskal captured his first career win in the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks two weeks ago. Nearly two dozen racers were on hand, and more are expected for this race. Dalton Speer and defending champion Justin Bailey were off the pace in their last outing, so look for them to rebound.

The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks will make their first appearance of 2022. Curtis J. Bish will be there to defend his title, but many others will try to knock the king off his throne.

Racing will begin at 6 p.m., with practice commencing at approximately 5:15. The Pit gates will open at 2 p.m. Spectators can gain admission to the grounds at 4 p.m. to get their favorite seats.

Regular event ticket pricing will apply. So, adults (ages 16 to 62) will be admitted for $15, and seniors (ages 62 and up) will be admitted for $13. Student tickets (for those aged 10 to 16) will be $10. Children (up to age 10) will be admitted for free. The Family Pass will be $45, and that will be good for two adults of any age and two students. Pit Passes will be $30.

If you cannot make it to the track this week to celebrate Father’s Day, a Sunday Thunder program will be held on June 26. A big July 4 Holiday celebration is planned, with racing on Saturday and Sunday, July 2 and 3. Practice will take place on Friday, July 1. There will be free camping for the weekend, plus fireworks and a bonfire on Sunday night.
